Gerbils

Maus

Name: Maus
Species: Gerbil
Sex: Male – Neutered
Age: 1.5 yrs
Status: Available for bonding with another gerbil

Maus came into our care in May along with Renn, who later gave birth to 2 babies. We had Maus castrated with the hopes of reintroducing him to Renn, but unfortunately bonding attempts have been unsuccessful so we are now looking for a home with a new friend for Maus.

Maus can live with a single male or female gerbil and will need to be introduced via the split tank method. We can carry this out at the rescue or provide support and advice for those wishing to bond at home.

Maus is a friendly boy who will take food from hands and is fine to handle once caught.

Update 13/09/21 – Maus is once again looking for a friend/home as an attempted bond with a similar age intact male was unsuccessful.

Housing requirements: Tank size of 100cm l x 50cm w x 40cm d.

Hamsters

Dwarf Hamsters

Name: Saturn, Mars, Earth, Pluto.
Species: Hybrid Russian dwarf hamsters
Sex: Saturn & Earth – Female, Mars & Pluto – Male
Age: Born 20th July 2021
Status: Pluto – RESERVED
Saturn, Earth & Mars – Available for adoption (separately) from 20th September

These adorable dwarf hammies were born in rescue at Burrowed Hearts Animal Rescue after they had a large intake of hamsters, one of whom gave birth to these guys!

As they are young, all will require taming, so adopters must be patient and understanding of hamster behaviour. They are gorgeous little beans who love living a natural hamster life – burrowing in deep substrate and popping out to forage for food after humans have gone to bed! They are not cuddly children’s “pets”.

Housing requirements: A minimum enclosure size of 80x50cm (floor space on one level), 20cm wheel, plenty of enrichment and deep substrate for burrowing in.

Mice

Walnut & Peanut

Name: Walnut & Peanut
Species: Fancy mice
Sex: Male (neutered)
Age: Born 30th May 2021
Status: Available for adoption from 24th Sept

Walnut & Peanut were born in rescue after their mother was taken in as part of a large scale rescue where over 100 mice were removed from one household.

We have had the boys castrated to reduce their chances of fighting as they mature, and to allow them to live with female mice. They would like to find a home where they can join at least one female mouse, if not more. Mice love to live in groups.

Housing requirements: A minimum of 80x50cm on one level for a trio, larger for larger groups.

Guinea Pigs

Zebedee

Name: Zebedee
Species: Guinea Pig
Sex: Male (neutered)
Age: Unknown, guesstimate 18 months
Status: Available for bonding from 27th Sept

Zebedee came into our care from a large scale hoarding/backyard breeder situation. He is quite timid and doesn’t like being handled, but has started getting into a routine and now wheeks for his food at breakfast and tea time!

We had Zebedee castrated on 16th August, so he will be ready to bond with females from 27th September. We are happy to consider potential homes for him now.

Housing requirements: Zebedee can live indoors or outdoors (providing the enclosure is entirely predator proof and provides adequate protection from the extremes of weather). For a pair of guinea pigs, we require a minimum of 20 sq ft of space on one level, more for larger groups.Apply to Adopt
